AI Importer lets you connect Clerk.io to any platform that exposes an API — without predefined configuration or fixed form fields.

The setup happens entirely within Ask Clerk.io. Describe what you want to connect, and Ask Clerk.io guides you through the rest: finding the API, requesting credentials, building the importer, and testing it before handing off to Data Sync.

Getting started #

Go to Ask Clerk.io and tell it which platform you want to import from. Include a URL to your store if you have one — it gives Ask Clerk.io a useful starting point.

Ask Clerk.io will figure out what configuration is required. Rather than presenting you with a form full of unfamiliar fields, it works out the requirements on its own and asks for what it needs — one thing at a time.

Credentials #

Ask Clerk.io will request credentials based on what the platform requires. This might be an API key, a set of login details, or a token — depending on how the platform authenticates.

If Ask Clerk.io can find the relevant API documentation on its own, it will do so. If the documentation is not publicly available or you want to speed things up, you can paste it or share a URL directly in the chat. Ask Clerk.io will use it as context for the rest of the setup.

Testing #

Once the connection is configured, Ask Clerk.io runs a test to verify it can reach the platform and pull back the expected data.

If the test succeeds, you will see a summary of what was found. If something fails, Ask Clerk.io identifies the cause and proposes a fix — whether that is a credentials issue, an incorrect endpoint, or something in the API response.

Fixing issues #

When something goes wrong, Ask Clerk.io will explain what happened and suggest what to try next.

You can ask it to retry with the current configuration, adjust specific details, or start the whole process over from scratch. The conversation stays in context throughout, so Ask Clerk.io remembers what was already tried and does not repeat steps that did not work.

If you want to cancel entirely and start fresh, just ask. Ask Clerk.io will clear the state and let you begin again from the beginning.

Extending the import #

After the initial connection is working, you can extend what is imported. Ask Clerk.io can:

  • Pull in additional product attributes your catalogue uses
  • Connect to third-party data sources alongside your main platform
  • Adjust the import logic to match your catalogue structure

Just describe what you need. Ask Clerk.io will update the configuration without requiring you to re-explain the setup from the start.

Handoff to Data Sync #

When the importer is ready, Ask Clerk.io hands it off to Data Sync with the full configuration in place.

The context from the conversation — the platform, credentials, and any adjustments made during setup — carries through automatically. Nothing needs to be re-entered once you arrive in Data Sync.

From there, you can manage the importer, control sync timing, and monitor sync logs in the same way as any other sync method.
