Understanding Your Usage Statistics in my.clerk.io

Learn more about your webshop's usage, and how this information is calculated.

Below is a guide to understanding your usage statistics, found under "Usage" in my.clerk.io. Usage is key to understanding overall webshop traffic, Clerk.io Search and Recommendations performance, and of course the billing tier your webshop falls into.

Here's an example when using Clerk.io Recommendations:

For each Recommendations slider on a specific webpage, every time that page loads, one usage is calculated per slider that is on that page.

  • For example, if you have 2 Recommendations sliders on your homepage, you would have 2 usage added per page load.

Every Recommendation slider's activity can be monitored within your my.clerk.io dashboards, and can be managed or disabled if there's a desire to lower usage or if that Recommendations content is under-performing.

For Recommendations, a typical webshop has between 1 to 1.5 usage for the amount of page-views they have.


Search usage are predictions calculated based on shopper behaviors via Live Search and Search Page results.

  • If a visitor of your webshop modifies their search, and therefore different results load dynamically, each dynamic change would add 0.2 to usage.
    • For example, if a visitor types "shoe" and Live Search populates, then  the visitorcontinues to type to form "shoelace", a second population occurs. In this case, there would be 2 dynamic results (1 for "shoe", 1 for "shoelace"), leading to 0.2 x 2 = 0.4 added to usage.
  • Similarly, if a query suggests Products, Categories and/or Pages, each group (not individual result suggestion) would count as 0.2 usage.
    • For example, if a Live Search query "shoe" is typed, and results appear for Products (2 Nike Shoes), Categories (Footwear, Sneakers, Sandals) and Pages (Blog About Summer Footwear), you would have 0.2 x 3 = 0.6 usage.
      • If just Products and Categories populated when searching "shoe", regardless of the number of results, that would be 0.2 x 2 = 0.4 usage.

Once a customer clicks through to your Search Page results, regardless of the number of products shown on that page, 1 usage is added with Search Page results.

A typical webshop can use about 10% of their page views to estimate Search usage overall. This is based on 1/2 - 1/3  of a webshop's visitors making use of Live Search when on the site, which is an industry average within eCommerce.


Email usage depends on the number of Emails sent monthly via Clerk.io, as well as if you're using Clerk.io's Auto-Email or a third-party solution.

  • For Auto-Email, simply put, 1 Email Sent = 1 Usage.
  • When using a third party email solution with a Clerk.io integration, we only count opened emails  towards usage, where 1 opened email = 1 usage


Audience usage is based on the total unique webshop customers per month in your store that are incorporated into relevant Clerk.io Audiences. 

  • For example, if you have 25,000 customers in your Audiences, with 10,000 belonging to Audience A and 15,000 belonging to Audience B with no overlap between Audiences, the total Audience usage would be 25,000.
  • Of course, as your Audience grows, so does your webshop's Audience usage.
